This student spotlight was born and raised in the Philippines! She left everything she knew and loved to be with her now husband and it is a beautiful story we get to unfold. She is a mama of 2 boys and 1 girl and has a knack for technology! She not only has her own IT business, but she is a wonderful photographer! I'm happy to introduce you to Belle Bermudez-Tubel of Tubel Photography! Take a look at what she's been able to accomplish in a short amount of time…
I am a family, maternity, lifestyle newborn, and senior photographer in Northern Virginia. I started my business in 2019 when I photographed anything and everything that can be photographed. I realized quickly that these 4 brought me so much joy so I decided to focus all my energy and time into these types of sessions.
My photography journey has been crazy, in a good way, because of my full time job and most especially with everything shutting down in 2020 because of COVID. But to my surprise, it took off right after I decided to re-open in fall 2020. And things only got better from then on.
I used to run a motherhood/fashion blog, One Awesome Momma, which I had to close last year. It was a very difficult decision for me, because of all the hours I poured into it. When I first started it, I was using my phone to take all the photos I needed. I was getting collaborations from big brands like Carter's, BJ's Wholesale Club, and Shoe Carnival, so I knew I had to level up my photography game. That's when I picked up my Sony A6000. To be honest, I didn't know how to use it then. Shortly after, I learned how to use it. Slowly, I lost interest in blogging and more interested in documenting more memories with my family. That's how I started with the idea of starting my own photography business – to help moms like myself to freeze moments with their favorite people.
I have two things I love about my photography business. First, it allowed me to experience a side of me that is very comfortable interacting with other people. I am an introvert; just the thought of being in a group setting gives me anxiety! But my photography business allowed me to overcome that limitation. Every time I have a session, I love seeing myself come out of my shell and take control of whatever situation is thrown my way to help my clients document that season of their lives. Second, I love the relationship that I have made with my clients. Some of them have turned into really great friends of mine. And other photographers I have made friendships with along the way.
If there's nothing else that I'd gain from my photography business, I'd be very grateful for these 2 things right here.
Running my business and keeping it profitable while juggling motherhood and a full time job are some of them. But my ultimate achievement is when I have clients who keep coming back, every year, and for different milestones in their family's life. That tells me that I served them well and nothing would make me happier or prouder than that.
I'd say to pursue photography as soon I migrated here.
