She has been in the industry over 10 years and got started on her business journey by capturing memories of her own children. She's enrolled in Profitable Minis 2.0 and the Family Posing System Mini Course! I am pleased to introduce you to our Student Spotlight: Rosa Ashdown of Rosa Ashdown Photography!

Tell me a little about your photography business!

I'm a maternity, newborn, and family photographer! I’m truly fortunate to have photographed so many families and newborns over my ten years as a photographer. My journey as a photographer was very overwhelming at first. I wanted to make sure I did everything right in terms of operating a legit business. I was so thrilled to finally be able to do what I loved as a career and started to meet families through photography some of which have remained returning clients each year! Some have become very good friends of mine! Overall it has been a happy and fulfilling journey seeing my business grow from nothing to a profitable business!

What started your photography journey?

When I was a brand new mom, I felt desperate to contribute and provide for my family financially. I started taking pictures of my precious little girl and remember creating albums and playing with Photoshop. Photoshop used to be my nemesis but only because I had no clue what I was doing. We are best friends now!

What is your favorite thing about running a photography business?

I love capturing families' love connections and unforgettable milestones. For me, it’s all about having a blast together with families and having meaningful connections.

What is something you’ve achieved that you’re proud of?

I'm really glad I never gave up. There have been times at the beginning of business when I felt defeated and overwhelmed. It felt like starting a business was too much to take in and many times I didn't think I could go through with it. Photographers wear ALL the hats and making sure you know everything from marketing, how to run a business, taxes, customer service, editing, posing, camera settings, etc. is challenging when you are new. I feel very accomplished for powering through the struggles no matter how difficult it felt at the time!

If you could tell your past self one thing, what would it be?

I would say to myself to slow down, enjoy the business journey, make the most out of the families I met along the way, and trust that my efforts will pay off eventually.
