Have you been wondering how to do fall mini sessions? A mini session is a 10-20 minute session that is booked in time blocks with a specific date and location that you choose! And a mini only includes 5 sessions so that clients can enjoy a bite of the cake, not the full thing. Doing minis this way will maximize your profit. Before diving into the details of how to do fall minis I want you to grab this Free Guide. It’s called the $3k Mini Sessions Blueprint. If you’ve never made $3000 off a single date of minis, stop what you’re doing and grab the blueprint! Inside is an easy step by step guide to help you make a profit on mini sessions. Ready for some how-tos?
Typically for Fall Minis people are looking for some updated family photos that will last. Maybe they use them for upcoming holiday cards or just new frames around the house. Either way, you don’t need to come up with a theme when nature lends itself so well. And you can take the pressure off yourself by avoiding a creative setup or theme. I usually save the themed minis for Christmas time! This is a great way to make sure you have options, but on your timeframe. Find a beautiful outdoor location and get promos so families know what it will look like.
As family photographers we have to be mindful of schedules. Especially with young kids, avoid nap time at all costs! I usually shoot on weekends and aim for 2-3 hour time blocks. If you know me you know I have a very light and airy style. This means I’m aware of when the sun rises and sets as well as finding an open space. I don’t want a location that is super busy. I look for open shade and open light with low amounts of people!
Trust me when I say 15 minutes is plenty of time to get ALL the images needed. But, the only way to do this is by going in with a plan. I use a posing workflow to be sure I stay on time and know what’s next. Start with the whole family, mom with the kids, dad with the kids, kids individually, then end with the whole family once more.
Shootproof is my go to here. It allows me to deliver a full gallery of 20, but limit the downloads to 5. Beyond that amount they can purchase! This is how I can upsell using the shopping cart feature. Digitals are $65 each, sets of 3 for $90 or the whole gallery for $200. This is the sweet spot I’ve seen work across the board and it promotes upselling so easily. All this is done in the gallery so there isn’t any back and forth!
